Space Emperor God Sigma (宇宙大帝ゴッドシグマ, Uchū Taitei Goddo Shiguma) is a mecha anime television series that aired from 1980 to 1981, running for 50 episodes. It is also referred to as 'God Sigma, Empire of Space' and 'Space Combination God Sigma.' The series was produced by Toei Company (not Toei Animation) and animated by Academy Production, with animation services provided by Yoshinobu Nishizaki's Tokyo Dōga. It was the last project that Takashi Ijima worked on, who had been part of Toei's TV division since Chōdenji Robo Combattler V in 1976.

Lore & Background
The story is set in the year 2050 AD, when humanity has advanced space technology. The planet is attacked by the forces of Eldar, who come from 250 years in the future (2300 AD). Their planet Eldar was invaded by Earth and defeated by Earth's Trinity Energy, a mysterious energy with power many times that of a hydrogen bomb. The Eldar seek to steal this Trinity Energy before it can be used against them. They begin by taking over Jupiter's moon Io, a human colony, and then attack Trinity City with legions of Cosmosauruses. The protagonist Toshiya Dan and his friends use the giant robot God Sigma to protect the planet and the Trinity Energy, leading to a long war to retake Io.

Space Emperor God Sigma is significant as the last anime project of Takashi Ijima, a key figure in Toei's television division who had worked on earlier mecha series like Combattler V. The show ran for four full seasons, a rarity at the time of its broadcast. It shares a production model similar to the Robot Romance Trilogy, where Toei produced the show but the animation was done by an outside studio (here, Tokyo Dōga). The series introduced a giant robot formed by combining three smaller robots with a flying wing, using a 'Sigma Formation' and 'Trinity Charge' command.
